Branch Chain Amino Acids

If you are apart of the fitness world in some way you have probably hear about BCAAs. Probably also have heard that you NEED to take them. However do you know why they are important? Here are a couple points: Our bodies do not produce branch chain amino acids, meaning the only way we can get these is through our diets. Okay I know you asking yourself this now, well if we don’t produce them do we really need them? Short answer YES! They cause protein synthesis… What is that? Protein synthesis does everything from helping to build structures to supporting your immune system. On top of that they also promote glycogen sparing to occur during training… Again English please? Glycogen sparing is the use of non-carbohydrates as a source of energy during exercise so that the depletion of muscle glycogen stores is delayed. (Allowing you to train longer!) Essential Amino Acids

So BCAAs do a lot… Why are essential amino acids important? Same as BCAAs, EAAs cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained through diet. The difference between BCAAs and EAAs is that BCAAs have a chain branching off to one side of its molecular structure. EAAs do a lot of the same thing promoting protein synthesis.
